To Sequel or not to Sequel

I must say when Fright Night the remake came out I was not amused nor excited to see it. But after I saw it my view changed and I saw the remake for what it was. Now 2 years later we get a follow up movie called New Blood with no star power to back it up. Will this follow up end up in a good way?

On a European high school study program, Charley Brewster (Will Payne), his obnoxious sidekick "Evil" Ed Bates (Chris Waller), Charley's former girlfriend Amy (Sacha Parkinson), and others are intrigued by their new art history professor Gerri Dandridge (Jaime Murray). Charley stumbles into a few encounters that lead to his discovering that her real identity is Elizabeth Bathery, a legendary vampire who is likely the real inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula. Gerri/Elizabeth is on a quest to find a midnight-born, new moon virgin whose blood will allow her to walk in daylight, and coincidentally Amy fits the bill. Charley tries to explain to her the danger she's facing, but she laughs off his absurd allegations. That leaves Charley and Ed with only one alternative: persuade reality host Peter Vincent (Sean Power) who is the face of a paranormal investigation program called Fright Night to lend a hand in helping to dispose of the centuries old vampire.

Fright Night 2 New Blood

Well it is a follow up movie but actually not, this one has nothing to do with the old 1988 movie nor the remake from 2011. This stand-alone piece in the franchise has its own identity a new vision on how Fright Night should unfold. Most people that know me know that I like to get my gore fix, with this one we get a bit of it but thanks to great script writing feels like it has been edited in just because they could. Same goes for the over the top torture scene that absolutely did not fit the story or made sense. It felt more that it should be in a type of movie in the caliber of Hostel or something. Acting wise the movie was dull and uninspired and this made the sit-down for this movie even harder.

Fright Night 2 New Blood

One thing that it does good is the cinematography which really makes it a bit watchable. The way the movie tries and set down the gothic, historic feel of Romania is great. It is too bad this style of filming worked so well for the movie, in my opinion it shouldn't have deserved this. Where other straight to video movies are doing well this one just isn't cutting it. You can see that due to the uninspiring script and acting the movie is flying below radar for most horror fans. I can't understand that Eduardo Rodriguez has such detail for the smallest things in what you see but can't put any effort into the script. It is a bland and dull movie and just doesn't fit the franchise.

Fright Night 2 New Blood

Fright Night 2: New Blood is a letdown in all ways possible and really ruins what the remake did right. Again the looks of the movie are great but the dull script and dull acting is just killing it. They could have done so much more with this movie and really ride on the good things the remake had but they couldn't do it. For me the Fright Night franchise should not return leave it be and move on.
